Beyond “I love you”

Each day, a million times a day, I tell Nathan that I love him. I tell him that I’m proud of him. I let him know that I appreciate how quickly he acted when I asked him to get dressed or pick up his toys. So this special moment that I had with him last night came as a bit of a surprise. After I tucked him into bed I sat down on the floor so that I could be at eye level with him. I looked him in the eyes and celebrated to him specific things that I’ve noticed in him that make my heart happy. I told him that I was so proud of how kind and caring he is with his brother and lots of other things that I’ve observed this week. I told him that I noticed that he’s getting bigger and stronger and faster and how someday I’m sure he’ll be as strong as his daddy. I watched as his face started out serious, taking in the moment and listening carefully, changed with each word until he was grinning with pride as I kissed his forehead and told him goodnight.
I just want to encourage you to make those moments with the people that have allowed you close to their hearts. Be sincere. Pour into them until they feel like they can conquer the world. Each person has so much potential for greatness, but so few of us are aware…
